CACE autumn term
The CACE programme of autumn term classes is available for enrolment. Most classes will start week commencing 18th September.
Summer Term Starts Next Week. Places still available in classes
The summer term tees off with Golf Classes on Sunday 24th April and most other classes starting during next week. We made a couple of changes after the website went live and the brochures were printed. A Pilates Class has been added to the programme and Qigong and Tai Chi Classes moved from Thursdays to Mondays.
Although we set the enrolment deadline for 18th April, if there are still spaces in the classes, enrolments are still open. At the moment there are places available for most of the classes, but please don’t delay in enrolling if you want to attend and benefit from a full term of classes.
Change to advertised Tai Chi & Qigong Classes
Enrolments will continue as normal. Please check ‘This Terms Classes’ tab on the website or email caceclasses@gmail.com for further details.
Spring 2022 Classes
Spring Term 2022 classes start on 24th January. There are still spaces in some of the classes and it’s not too late to enrol for these. Please see This Term’s Classes for full description of the classes and enrolment details.
CACE AGM Friday 28th May
The AGM will be held on Friday 28th May starting at 7.00 pm via the internet on Zoom. The agenda and accounts etc. will be added to the CACE website for perusal before the meeting. If you want to attend the AGM, please advise by email to caceclasses@gmail.com
CACE BOOK CIRCLE NOW OPEN TO NEW MEMBERS
Do you enjoy reading? Would you like the opportunity to discuss the books you’ve read with other readers, perhaps suggest books for others to read and read some of their suggestions?
The CACE Book Circle is now open to new members. It’s an informal sociable group that meets on the 3rd Monday of each month. Currently the group is meeting online, by Zoom. The next meeting is on Monday 15th February.
For more details, see ‘This Term’s Classes’.
Spring Term starts 18th January 2021
The Spring Term starts next week. If you’ve enrolled for a Zoom class, the details you need to log in to the class will be emailed to you a day or so before the first class of term.
If you’re intending enrolling for any of the classes but haven’t done so yet, please don’t delay so we can send you the details you need in time to participate in the first class and to help us take an informed decision on whether to run classes that are currently undersubscribed.
Spring Term 2021 Classes
The Programme of Classes for Spring 2021 is now available for online enrolment. Classes will start week commencing 18th January. Most of the classes will be delivered on Zoom, including a new class for this term – Crochet, with Ellie Fiddes. Gareth Couzens will provide golf classes at the normal venue GC Golf at Middlebank.
Please look at the This Term’s Classes tab above for details of all the classes.
Summer Term Classes and AGM
Summer Term Classes Open for Enrolment from 22nd May.
We’re running internet based classes using Zoom Video Meetings for a short block of classes from 28th May until July. The classes are Ballet, Painting, Spanish, Yoga and the Book Circle. From 7th June we’re also running our normal golf classes at GC Golf at Middlebank Golf Centre. The Centre has been adapted to accommodate social distancing and other safety measures. Class places will be limited. Go to ‘This Term’s Classes’ for more details and to enrol for the classes.
CACE AGM
We don’t know when we’ll be able to hold our AGM in the normal format so we’re proposing to hold the AGM via the internet, using Zoom. The AGM will be on Friday 26th June at 7.30 pm. The agenda and accounts etc will be added to the CACE website for perusal before the meeting. If you want to attend, please advise by email to caceclasses@gmail.com and we’ll send you the link you’ll need to join the meeting a few days before the due date.
Assistance with Technology to use Zoom for Classes and the AGM
To use Zoom for participation in the classes and the AGM, you’ll need an internet connection, an email address and a device (e.g. laptop, iPad, tablet, desktop computer, etc) with a camera and microphone. The majority of laptops and iPads etc., less than 5 years old and some which are older will have built in cameras & microphones. Desktop computers may not have these but you may be able to use a desktop if you already have or purchase an external microphone and webcam. These are relatively inexpensive. These Youtube video clips show you what you need and how to join a class/meeting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh50kVaIdAY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9isp3qPeQ0E but if you need further assistance re using Zoom, please email caceclasses@gmail.com and we’ll contact you to arrange a suitable time to call you.
Treasurer Required
Our Treasurer, Linda Scaife, has tendered her resignation. We’re keen to hear from anyone who might be prepared to take on this vital role for CACE. Please contact Muriel on 01382 360205 for further details.
CACE Classes Update 3rd May 2020
All normal CACE classes are cancelled until further notice but some of the tutors have provided information & recordings to help you practice at home. We’ve also now held our first live virtual class by video conference and we’re continuing to update our website and the CACE Facebook page to provide free online information for practising at home.
Here’s an update on what’s been happening and some useful information and links to materials you can use at home.
Tai Chi/Qigong/Chi Kung – Bill Styles has recorded 3 video clips which you can use to practice at home. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EzHUJ8_9IA for the first video. To see Bill’s other videos in which he demonstrates some of the other routines normally used in the classes, click on the ‘This Term’s Classes’ tab above and look for the class ‘Tai Chi and Chi Kung Online’, click on that and then click on ‘Read more’
Bridge – For Bridge Class members, there are a lot of websites where you can play bridge online for free e.g. funbridge.com & http://bjbridge.org/ . On www.bridgebase.com you can set up a virtual table with friends and you can join in other virtual tables with others playing throughout the world.
Genealogy – Pat Roberts has sent a reminder that Find My Past still have their 14 day free trial and also have a number of free to access records. An ideal opportunity to dig into your family history. https://www.findmypast.co.uk/frequently-asked-questions/answer/how-can-i-take-a-free-trial For free records see https://www.findmypast.co.uk/page/free-ancestry-records
Yoga – Ann Binnie has now produced 2 yoga videos and 2 relaxation audios which have been shared with participants of the most recent term’s Yoga classes to help them practice at home. We’re now beginning to investigate the possibility of providing live classes online.
Spanish – The first live Spanish class held on Zoom video conference was held on 23rd April. Following the success of this, Valentina, the tutor, hosted a class on Thursday and is now providing another couple of classes before a decision is taken whether these will continue to run.

CACE AGM
The CACE Committee held a Zoom meeting last week to discuss a number of items, one of which was the AGM which is usually held in late May/early June. All the indications are that we will not be able to hold a meeting in a local hall as we normally do. We are considering holding the AGM using Zoom as this would allow some of our members to attend virtually. We’ll contact members via email to advise of how we plan to progress with this.
