loring the Carse, Summer 2019: finding the venues!
Most of the following information is taken from websites of the venue organisations.
22nd May: Guardswell Farm
Guardswell is based smack bang in between Abernyte and Kinnaird, on the south facing side of the hill. If coming from Perth, take the Inchmichael Flyover, aim for Kinnaird (Inchture) but do not go into the village of Kinnaird itself, carry on up the hill towards Abernyte and you’ll find us just up the hill. If coming from Dundee, aim for Abernyte and take the road signed “Kinnaird”, take that road for a couple of miles, and you’ll find us on your right hand side.
29th May: St Athernase Church, Leuchars
Parking is at the side of the church, coming from Dundee , at the small roundabout in Leuchars keep straight on, then about 30 yards further, bear left, up a small hill, you will see the church. Park in the spaces beside the wall, or on the street.
5th June: Soutar House, Perth
The venue is 27 Wilson Street, PH2 0EX. Wilson Street is in the Craigie area of Perth City, meeting Needless Road at one end and Queen Street at the other.
The only other issue is car parking as the house is in Wilson Street in Perth – a residential street – so cannot guarantee parking close to the house; your group might have to park along the road or in adjacent streets. Suggest they ensure they have time to park.
12th June: Inchyra Estate
From Perth (APPROX 10 mins) From Perth take the A90 towards Dundee and leave it after about 4 miles, following signs for Glencarse / St Madoes / Errol. At the top of the slip road bear left towards Glencarse, and after about 100 yards you will see our gates on the left, opposite Linden Garden Centre. PTO…
From Dundee (APPROX 20 mins) Leave Dundee taking the A90 towards Perth. After about 12 miles take the left hand turning to Glencarse / St Madoes/ Errol. Turn left at the top of the slip road, go back over the A90 and turn right towards Glencarse. The Inchyra Estate is about 100 yards on your left, opposite the Linden Garden Centre.
19th June: Westown
Address: THE AULD SMIDDY, KINNAIRD ROAD, WESTOWN, PERTHSHIRE PH2 7SU – there are 12 houses in village of Westown, and we all have the same postcode
Coming from direction Dundee on A90, then, approx 2 miles AFTER “INCHTURE INTERCHANGE” take green motorway exit signposted Westown, Errol (etc), and it is called “INCHMICHAEL INTERCHANGE”; at top of that slip-road off, turn RIGHT off mini roundabout at top of slip-road; then go over the overbridge; then first left for “Westown” then immediate first right marked “Westown”; after a mile on that back road, there’s a “spur” off to your right into Westown; once in village, see (on your left) the sprawling-looking house with the long wooden fence, and our lane into here is to your right, opposite that fence.
If approaching from Perth direction, then, aprrox half a mile after the Shell Service Station, take first exit left, then bear around the slip road off, then, FIRST RIGHT TURN takes you along the back road, then after a mile on that back road, there’s a “spur” off to your right into Westown; once in village, see (on your left) the sprawling-looking house with the long wooden fence, and our lane into here is to your right, opposite that fence.
Our cottage is on the right in that lane – wee red sandstone cottage; and you’ll see our timber outbuildings and the old ‘Chevy’ campervan.
The party will be divided into two groups on arrival, one to see the ponies and the other to see the sheep. Change over at half time!
